Where the Bond Begins
Trust grows faster when the whole family is in on it
11Max Indoor Fun Park is not built for quiet. Our youth, their families, and our team filled the afternoon with dodgeball, trampoline basketball, and even a mechanical bull. Our mentors led a make-your-own-slime session, and kids dreamed up their own colors while more than a few parents rolled up their sleeves to join in.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, Stedman's mentee Mike spotted him across the room and ran straight over. "I love you, Stedman!" The two have only been on a handful of outings so far. A kid doesn't say that to someone they're still sizing up.
Trust like that isn't built overnight. It comes outing by outing, from showing up again and again until showing up is simply what a kid expects from us. We spent the whole day with everyone, playing alongside the kids and getting to know their families.
That part matters as much as the rest. We don't just show up for one kid. We show up for the people around that kid, too. The afternoon gave our families room to meet each other, swap stories, and start building a wider circle of support. We walk alongside the whole family, not just the youth, and a family with its own strong connections gives a kid that much more to stand on.
This is the start of relationships we'll carry for 12+ years, no matter what. The day showed us how far we've come, and how much more we can do.
